Christmas Pageant with Bill Pearce

Henry and his boys club are putting on a Christmas pageant in the high school auditorium. It will close with a short performance by Christian recording artist Bill Pearce. There are rehearsals and many problems to iron out. Henry learns that one of the boys, Johnny, doesn't believe the Christmas story. Henry takes the time to witness to Johnny, and Johnny begins to believe. Johnny asks Henry, "If the Bible is true, why everyone doesn't believe?" Wally, a key boy in the show, is hit by a car and must stay in the hospital. How will the pageant go on with Wally in the hospital? What will happen to Johnny? And what of Bill Pearce?

Christmas Bells

Policeman Pat O’Roark faces death just before Christmas. He finds strength to live when he hears the church bells ring. When the bells break, only Herman Schmidt, can repair them. Herman has an attack of severe rheumatism and can’t climb the tower ladder to make the needed repairs. Bill and the boys are called on to try to fix the bells.

 Bats invade the attic of the Phipps' home, and one even bites Edna Phipps. Bill and Stumpy go to evict the bats and discover the bats are sick with rabies! The boys get help fighting off the bats from some feathered friends. One of the Phipps' neighbors causes Bill even more trouble than those pesky bats.

 The circus has arrived at Junction City. A full-grown bull rhino is its main attraction. This particular rhino doesn't like being in the circus. The huge beast breaks his chains and charges off into the forest. Bill and the boys are called in to find and shoot the marauder before he hurts anyone or does any serious damage. Can our rangers safely corner this prehistoric monster? Will Stumpy's pride endanger the hunt and possibly endanger lives too?

Bill's rangers spot large campfires on the top of Razorback Ridge. Bill, Stumpy, and Gray Wolf go to investigate. They find what appear to be animal sacrifices like sacrifices in the Old Testament. No one is sure who is doing this and why. At the same time the wealthy Thompson family send out letters searching for their lost son. Bill has his hands full with two mysteries at once!

It appears as though RB108 The Wrong Valley and RB109 are both stories of men who have lost God, each in their own way.

Jimmy's Christmas Miracle


Little crippled Jimmy Benson needs hope to heal his injured legs that have him trapped in a wheelchair. Bill gives him that hope when he locates a specialist who thinks he can fix Jimmy’s injury. Bill needs help from the church to pay for the operation, but a board member blocks using church funds for this.

The Cruel Man

Basil Rascombe is a successful rancher on the Big Mesa. He is also a man with a big problem, his out-of-control temper. Stumpy and Henry are riding on Big Mesa when they find a badly beaten colt. They care for the yearling and put it protective custody. Basil has Stumpy arrested and taken to court. Basil WANTS the colt back. What can our rangers do to rescue both Stumpy and the colt? Can Bill get Basil to control his temper or will rage rule?

The Falling Giants


The Giant Pines are falling over without any explanation. Bill and the boys must find out what is happening before the forest is lost. What is causing this? Is it insects, a new disease, poor soil. or what? Millions of dollars of beautiful, majestic pines are in danger. The forest service and lumber companies want answers, and Bill is at a loss to provide those answers.

RB106 Terror on the Finger River

The Finger River flows out of the Rockies and into the Pacific. Much of the river is a mix of salt and fresh water. That mix makes hunting and fishing along the river excellent. Suddenly, fishing lines are being robbed and hunters are losing their kills to something in the river. The thief appears to be a baracuda, a killer with two rows of razor-sharp teeth and fins. Bill must find this thief and stop it - whatever it is. Can Bill locate our thief, or will terror continue on the Finger River?

Bill, Henry, Stumpy, and Gray Wolf take a trip upriver to see the construction of the new Silver River Dam. The construction foreman Brick Finch is as proud as a peacock of the money he saved on motors for the flood gates. But will there be other costs to these cheap motors?

Trouble is brewing at Trappers Landing in Big North Country. Roy Westgate's trading post is busy with trappers who should be working their lines. Trappers Abe and Jeff tell of losing pelts from their trap lines.  Mac and Shorty say they followed tracks they have never seen before. Then Big Jack arrives to say he's seen wolverine tracks. The wolverine is the most feared animal in the wild. Trappers believe a wolverine killed Beaver Dan in Alaska. The news creates a panic and causes most of the trappers to quit for the year. Roy's trading post will close if the trappers quit. Roy asks Bill to help. But how can Bill fight superstition and the fear it brings?

Decision for Death

Eight climbers on the Savage Mountains (better known as the Refrigerator Mountains) fall into a crevasse. Bill and his rangers are called in to rescue the trapped climbers. Two men have fallen so far that they can’t be reached. Will Bill be able to find some way to rescue these men before they suffer the slow, maddening process of freezing to death?

Henry hears stories of an antique steam train abandoned way up in the Shady Mountains. The engine belonged to the Three Rs - the Rimrock, Rawhide, and Ragweed railroad. Henry goes hiking in search of the valuable old train. Henry's tough walk is rewarded when he discovers an old engine in a shed. Two men find the train first and are determined to take the engine and sell it to a collector. They tie up Henry and fire up the train to steal it. Will Bill discover the thieves, stop them, AND rescue Henry?

What is this beast? Can Bill and the boys capture or kill this monster? Is Mr. Carstares safe hunting alone in the mountains?

Bixby has a plan to capture the beast, but Bill still isn’t sure it will work.

Bill and the boys investigate and try to bring the river back. Henry may have the key to the problem in a book he’s studying.

Soil erosion is washing tons of black top soil into the Shady River turning its clear blue mountain waters into a muddy mess during each rain storm. Senator Baxter wants a dam on the Shady to control the river's flood waters and stop erosion. Ranger Bill has soil erosion under control in the national forest. Bill knows the same methods will work just as well for farmers and ranchers all along the Shady. Who is behind Senator Baxter's dam and assisting the senator to get the dam built? How can a government employee like Bill oppose a US senator? Will farmers be saddled with taxes to pay for a dam?

Bill and his rangers find out Arnie's job isn't so easy. Bill must cover a huge section of forest, lakes and rivers, as well as protect and rescue both vacationers as well as the wildlife. And there are poachers, especially the Bixon family. Find out with Bill and the boys just how hard and dangerous the flying game warden's job really is!

The Deep Country

Col. Anders and his wife get lost in the deep country while they are on vacation. The colonel’s assistant tells the Anders’ daughter that her parents are missing. Those two plus the slow-motion folks who live in the deep country make Bill’s job of finding the Anders nearly impossible.

This is one of Ranger Bill's very first adventures. It was probably first broadcast in 1950 when the show was several 15-minute adventures aired on Monday afternoons in the greater Chicago area only. Our cast may have also performed this show live to Sunday Schools and church groups to help advertise the broadcasts.

In the Eagles' Nest

Bill and Lieutenant Larson of the US Aeronautical Survey Team find Old Man Margrave tied up and half dead in his cabin in Lost Canyon. Two thugs, Hawk and Banjo Eyes, did this to the old gentleman to get his treasure hidden up in the mountain cliffs. The key to finding the treasure is a notebook hidden in the cabin. So why does Bill want a football uniform, a pilot's helmet, 100 feet of rope, and 10 pounds of beef to find the treasure? How will Bill, Henry, and Lt. Larson keep the two crooks from stealing or destroying the treasure? What is this mysterious treasure anyway? You'll have to listen to find out.

 A truck in a convoy of archaeological artifacts breaks down just outside of Knotty Pine. The biggest truck is carrying a valuable mummy from Egypt. Bill and his rangers are in charge of guarding the mummy until the truck is repaired. Stumpy is leery of watching this “old pile of bandages”. Mr. Peabody, the convoy director, is not happy about leaving the valuable mummy in Knotty Pine.

Arson at Brighton College 

Bill and Henry take off for the weekend to visit Bill's alma mater Brighton College and enjoy the homecoming football game. Henry is going to Brighton to visit with the college president's son Ronnie Winters. Ronnie keeps getting into trouble and has difficult time owning up to his mistakes. An old building being used as a dorm catches fire and the building's janitor is severely hurt. Fire investigators suspect arson. Later, Bill and Henry spot Ronnie speeding and generally driving dangerously. Is the Brighton fire arson? Could Ronnnie be that arsonist? What can Bill and Henry do to find the fire's cause and the person responsible?

The family of tree frogs has hundreds of members all around the world. Tree frogs have feet that easily stick to tree limbs. They stay in trees during the day for protection from preditors while they sleep, then they live on the ground and in the water to hunt for insects at night.

The Salesman

Bill saves a child who wandered into the street and is hit by the car himself. Bill is slightly injured and needs just a little rest at home. Gill Major, an insurance salesman, visits Bill to try to sell him life insurance. Bill turns the tables on Gill and tries to sell him Eternal Life Insurance. Gill is not a Christian and has no interest in eternal life insurance. But can Gill ignore insurance whose premium was paid in full 2000 years ago, provides protection after death, guarantees the insured eternal life, and the insured person is the beneficiary? Bill and Henry find and shoot a fox and a wolf, both with rabies. Even more rabid animals threaten the lives of Knotty Pines residents. School is in session. Bill must find a way to protect the school children from being bitten.
The children are trapped in the school building when the school bus has a flat tire. Henry's friend Don, who is a long-distance runner, may be the only one who can get help.

It’s late winter in Knotty Pine. Winter is just beginning to loosen its grip, and the snow is starting to melt. Bill, Henry, Stumpy, and Gray Wolf take a trip upriver to see the construction of the new Silver River Dam. The construction foreman Brick Finch is as proud as a peacock of the money he saved on motors for the flood gates. But will there be other costs to these cheap motors?

Uncle bob Devine gets a visit from Harry the Old Man's Beard lichen. Lichen is a mixture of fungus and algae. You will find him on the Sitka spruce tree and large leaf maples in Olympic National Park in the state of Washington. He is one of more than 130 species of lichen.

Buses heading for Knotty Pine are crashing. It's not poor weather or icy roads that are causing these accidents. Bus drivers on the night route from Junction City to Knotty Pine are seeing animals, ghost animals, crossing the road in front of them causing the drivers to swerve and wreck. Gus McDougal will go out of business unless the road ghosts and the wrecks stop. Gus asks Bill and the boys to look into the problem. Are the animals real? Are the road ghosts real? And what can Bill do about ghosts anyway?

Trouble is brewing at Trappers Landing in Big North Country. Roy Westgate's trading post is busy with trappers who should be working their lines. Trappers Abe and Jeff tell of losing pelts from their trap lines.  Mac and Shorty say they followed tracks they have never seen before. Then Big Jack arrives to say he's seen wolverine tracks. The wolverine is the most feared animal in the wild. Trappers believe a wolverine killed Beaver Dan in Alaska. The news creates a panic and causes most of the trappers to quit for the year. Roy's trading post will close if the trappers quit. Roy asks Bill to help. But how can Bill fight superstition and the fear it brings?

Soil erosion is washing tons of black top soil into the Shady River turning its clear blue mountain waters into a muddy mess during each rain storm. Senator Baxter wants a dam on the Shady to control the river's flood waters and stop erosion. Ranger Bill has soil erosion under control in the national forest. Bill knows the same methods will work just as well for farmers and ranchers all along the Shady. Who is behind Senator Baxter's dam and assisting the senator to get the dam built? How can a government employee like Bill oppose a US senator? Will farmers be saddled with taxes to pay for a dam?

The Deep Country

Col. Anders and his wife get lost in the deep country while they are on vacation. The colonel’s assistant tells the Anders’ daughter that her parents are missing. Those two plus the slow-motion folks who live in the deep country make Bill’s job of finding the Anders nearly impossible.

This is one of Ranger Bill's very first adventures. It was probably first broadcast in 1950 when the show was several 15-minute adventures aired on Monday afternoons in the greater Chicago area only. Our cast may have also performed this show live to Sunday Schools and church groups to help advertise the broadcasts.

Moose McBain braves the 30-degree-below-zero winter cold on foot to tell Bill that he found a man frozen in the ice on Big Pine Lake. The discovery leads the rangers on a hunt for a missing team of scientists who have been trapped in a cave by an avalanche.

There's trouble at Goose Lake - BIG trouble. Homes and cabins along the lake are being broken into and wrecked. Angry homeowners want Ranger Bill and his boys to see the damage and find the culprit or culprits. Stumpy and Gray Wolf soon find something that they can't believe and don't want to believe. It looks like the biggest grizzly alive has come back, Old Joe. The Goose Lake residents are hopping mad and impatient. They aren't going to wait for Bill to get Old Joe. The men plan to hunt down Old Joe themselves. What is Bill going to do this time? How can he handle a mob of angry citizens and this enormous grizzly?

Ross Moss comes to Nature Corner this morning. You might like to get a magnifying glass out today to get a really good look at Ross. Moss plants are so small that about 500 moss plants could grow on a postage stamp. Ross is a bright green. He is made of a stem and very small leaves. Let Ross tell you and Uncle Bob all about himself. Then go outside and find a rock with some moss on it and take a close look at him with the magnifying glass!

The Log Jam

It is springtime in the Shady River Valley. The Shady River fills with snow melt and logs from the various logging camps high up in the mountains. Bill calls on the services of Frenchy DeSalle to free up a spring log jam that is causing the Shady River to flood homes along its banks. The jam is so huge that Frenchy may not be able to clear it!

The Man Who Understood

Angus, one of Bill’s rangers, is devastated when his son Steve is hit by a car and killed. Angus is so grief stricken that he wants revenge on the man who hit Steve. The driver is terribly sorry for the accident and understands how Angus feels. Bill must step in to stop Angus from hurting the driver.
