Nature Corner/Storybook Room for Saturday morning, June 27, 2026
This Saturday Uncle Bob Devine chats with one member of a family of birds, the Whip-poor-will family also known a the Nightjar family. Bob chats with the bird he calls the Poor Willow Bird.
You will find that Poor Willow Bird is more commonly refered to as the Eastern Wippoorwill. The eastern wippoorwill is found along southern Canada and down the easten United States. The eastern whippoorwill has a more southern cousin, The Mexican Whippoorwill who lives in the southwestern US and along eastern Mexico.
Both of these birds are known by their distinct calls. The Mexican calls out "whip-poor-will". The Eastern simply calls out "poor-will". Let's let Bob and Poor Will tell you more.
