RB003 Getting with the Wrong Crowd

RANGER BILL for Tuesday,  1/16/24, is

RB003 Getting with the Wrong Crowd

George Bruce returns to Knotty Pine after spending time in reform school. The citizens of Knotty Pine refuse to accept him or give him a hand. Bill gets George a delivery job with Frenchy DeSalle’s logging operation where he loses the payroll money.

RB004 The Hermit

RANGER BILL for Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, is

RB004 "The Hermit".
Ralph, chief ranger of the souther district, stops to tell Bill that there is a hermit living in the old line shack. That hermit has a secret. He is a famous surgeon, Dr. William Warburton. He operated on a friend, but the friend died. His grief drove him to live like a hermit. A mountain climber needs brain surgery or he will die. Only Dr. Warburton can perform the delicate work.

RB229 Moose Plague

RANGER BILL for Jan. 13, 2024, is

RB229 Moose Plague

Back in July of 2020, our own Joel Harris made a delightful and unexpected discovery when he found the previously unknown RANGER BILL story "Moose Plague".

"Moose Plague" appears to be a fairly early episode in the production of RANGER BILL. It has the #1 opening used from 1950 to mid 1959.
There is four feet of snow on the ground in Bill's forest district with another foot scheduled to fall over the next few hours. Road crews with huge rotary plows are just beginning to open up the main roads in the area. Border Town is just now getting the first of those rotary plows working their streets. Just as it looks as if life will begin to return to normal, a new problem arises. Moose herds from the north country invade border town looking for anything to eat.
Some residents want to shoot the moose to drive them away. Bill tells them that shooting will only cause the situation to become even more dangerous than it already is. The town demands a solution from Bill and his rangers NOW!!!
Bill decides that the moose are extremely hungry and need to be fed. Bill calls on some cargo planes to bring in tons of hay to feed the hungry animals. Then he has the hay carefully placed to lead the moose out of town.
Recall that Border Town was the subject of another episode where Frechy DeSalle's loggers were coming there to drink and gamble every weekend.

This recording is not the best, but I hope you will still enjoy it.

RB213 and RB214 The Spirits and the Spirits

RANGER BILL for late Saturday morning, 1/13/2024, is

RB213/214  The Spirits and the Spirit, parts 1and 2

Bill and Stumpy and a map maker go on vacation in South America to visit an old abandoned Portuguese fort hidden deep in the jungle along the Amazon River. The local residents are afraid to go to the fort for fear of the spirits of the dead Portuguese soldiers there. Legend says the soldiers were killed by natives who were made slaves to dig gold for the soldiers. Now the spirits of the soldiers guard their ill-gotten gold.

RB064 Penny Wise and Pound Foolish

We begin this second weekend of the new year with a construction project on Ranger Bill

for early Saturday morning, 1/13/2024 -
RB064 Penny Wise and Pound Foolish

It’s late winter in Knotty Pine. Winter is just beginning to loosen its grip, and the snow is starting to melt. Bill, Henry, Stumpy, and Gray Wolf take a trip upriver to see the construction of the new Silver River Dam. The construction foreman Brick Finch is as proud as a peacock of the money he saved on motors for the flood gates. But will there be other costs to these cheap motors?
