Back in July of 2020, our own Joel Harris made a delightful and unexpected discovery when he found the previously unknown RANGER BILL story "Moose Plague".
"Moose Plague" appears to be a fairly early episode in the production of RANGER BILL. It has the #1 opening used from 1950 to mid 1959.
There is four feet of snow on the ground in Bill's forest district with another foot scheduled to fall over the next few hours. Road crews with huge rotary plows are just beginning to open up the main roads in the area. Border Town is just now getting the first of those rotary plows working their streets. Just as it looks as if life will begin to return to normal, a new problem arises. Moose herds from the north country invade border town looking for anything to eat.
Some residents want to shoot the moose to drive them away. Bill tells them that shooting will only cause the situation to become even more dangerous than it already is. The town demands a solution from Bill and his rangers NOW!!!
Bill decides that the moose are extremely hungry and need to be fed. Bill calls on some cargo planes to bring in tons of hay to feed the hungry animals. Then he has the hay carefully placed to lead the moose out of town.
Recall that Border Town was the subject of another episode where Frechy DeSalle's loggers were coming there to drink and gamble every weekend.
